Well, I’ve had this blog for about a month now, and not one single hit. Should that be telling me something? Like, maybe I’m boring? Since no one has even looked, I don’t think thats it – they have to come to the site before they can feel that, and no one has even visited the site to find out! Not to say that maybe it isn’t – just that they have to come here first before they could possibly know.
I read my paper pretty thoroughly every morning, and the world news is really getting scary. If things keep heating up in places like Kenya, Pakistan, the Gaza Strip, etc., we will soon be involved in WWIII.
I’m a registered Republican, but my President’s foreign policy is scaring me to death as well. I think it all goes back to 911 when he declared war on Iraq. Our Constitution says that only the Congress has that right/responsibility. He usurped it and wasn’t even called down for it, much less impeached. All they did was rubber-stamp him. (Bet I’ll get some hits with that one!) It’s all gone downhill from there.
Actually, I’m a bit confused by it all. I don’t think that we should be pushed around, but then again, I don’t think that we should push others around, either. I don’t feel right about not helping emerging nations or even established ones, who are fighting hunger and other life-threatening problems, but then again, I know to the dollar just how much money I spend on food for my neighbors who are going hungry because they can’t afford to eat much except beans and pasta. I know exactly how many of my medicines my doctors have prescribed for me that I can’t afford to get, even with insurance. I buy the 5-6 most important meds (diabetic neuropathy, pain killers, blood pressure and heart meds, but I hit the ‘donut hole’ by March. That means that I have to pay full price for everything until I have put out $3,000.00 cash of my own. Since I’m feeding several families in my neighborhood, coming up with their cash co-pays so that they can take the babies or themselves to the doctor, I don’t have the money left over to get my own meds. I never had this problem (having to go without my meds for 9 months of the year) before Bush meddled with Medicare (Just after he raided the Social Security fund to give Fox in Mexico a HUGE chunk of money – to fight drugs, ironically). I could get my meds – all of them – for 12 months of the year. It still took most of my money, but I got them. Now, I can’t even get a few of them for 3 months. My last heart attack was caused by not being able to afford the meds the cardiologist told me to take. During it, I died – no heartbeat, no breathing – and it took several minutes before both were restored. I remember being totally embarrassed and apologizing profusely to the nurse when my bowels and bladder cut loose. I remember her telling me not to worry about it, then nothing until I woke up in CCU. They told me later that my heart stopped beating, and then my breathing quit. They got my heart going again after about 2 minutes, but it took several minutes longer before they could get me to breathing again. I was told before they let me go home that my next heart attack would be my last one, as they felt confident that they wouldn’t be able to start my breathing again.
I normally have been having heart attacks about every 9-12 months. My last one was 05-29-07. That means that I’m working on my 10th month, now. I’m trying to get my affairs in order, such as finding homes for my kids (dogs) and writing up the disposition of goods (including my body).
Maybe I won’t have to worry about another world war. But it still makes me sad.
